Dry January in 2020

Every year, many people pledge to be sober for the month of January. It’s becoming a global health trend at this point and it is just a time during the winter to regroup and start the year off healthy.

Who’s to say that Dry January has to be boring? There are several mocktails that can be made at home or there are actually several bars in Chicago that are recognizing the health trend and have created mocktail menus and boozeless bars.

We’re featuring Young American, located in Logan Square. The Filipino flare bar has been around for only 2 years. They’re known for their signature spirit-free cocktails that are flavorful and not just filled up with syrup. One thing that differentiates them is that they offer doses of CBD for just $5 to be put into their mocktails, which a lot of people opting to go sober really enjoy. It is a nice alternative because it won’t be overwhelmed by the effects of alcohol, but it will still give you a very relaxing sensation. For Chicago, we think that this establishment is actually really reasonably priced. You can get either 2 shots of bourbon, bitter, or tequila or 2 beers for $6. Their specialty cocktails are between $9-$12.

While we were there, we tried the following drinks with CBD. We felt so relaxed and the overall atmosphere was super calm and chill. Definitely a fun place for a day or evening date with all the cocktail and mocktail options!

#7: rooibos, tangerine tea, melon, ginger, lime, and sparked cinnamon.

#8: golden oat milk, strawberry, lemon, and mint.

#9: pineapple shrub, orange blossom water, and lemon tonic.

C.Y.O Rickey: fresh lime, soda.

Aside from their alcohol-free drink options, Young American also has a wide variety of food options as well. They have an excellent snack, brunch, and dinner menu. Some options are Filipino pad thai, popcorn shrimp, fries, biscuits breakfast blt, and many more to check out. The chicken tendies (picture to the left) were actually amazing. The Filipino twist on a basic American dish was just what it needed to spice up the dish.

Definitely one of our highest recommended places to go this year in Chicago. If you do go, be sure to tag us @chicago_rex on Instagram so that we can repost and share your content on our page.
