Kamehachi - Old Town, Chicago

Updated July 2, 2017
Kamehachi, or ‘Eight Turtles,’ is a sushi-focused Japanese restaurant and lounge in Old Town. Both turtles and the number 8 are considered good luck and signs of long life in Japan. Bevvers can wash down their sushi with sake, beer, cocktails, tea, and a full bar of options.

Arts

Comedy and Theater

Kamehachi hosts comedy shows from time to time, and Batsu performances every Thursday and Friday night at 8pm. In a Batsu show, four ‘warriors’ compete to avoid punishment in a game-show-meets-comedy performance. The warriors in the Kamehachi show are from comedy group Face Off Unlimited, and audience participation is also involved. According to Third Coast Review, “It was the most mildly perverse, alcohol fueled, comically salacious fun one could hope for.”
